Step 5: Choose Your Risers
Skateboard decks that use wheels smaller than 55mm do not typically require risers. However, we recommend using a 1/8” shock pad to help keep the hardware from vibrating loose.
Larger wheels are more likely to cause wheel bite (when the wheel makes contact with the underside of the deck), which leads to nasty wipeouts. In general, the longer the board and the larger the wheel, the more height is needed in a riser pad.
