Each skateboard wheel is mounted on a skateboard truck axle with two bearings per wheel. Skateboard bearings are industrial standard "608" size, with a bore of 8mm, an outer diameter of 22mm, and a width of 7mm. Most skateboard bearings are graded according to the ABEC scale. Bearings rated under the ABEC scale are typically called "precision bearings", and they are rated with a number from 1 to 9, with the higher number assigned to bearings manufactured against a higher standard of precision (high number = tighter tolerances = more expensive bearing). There is a common misconception that higher numbers are better for skateboarding, as the ABEC rating only measures tolerances which do not necessarily apply to skateboards.
