Shaun White, who snowboards on the Burton team, won the gold medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics. He’s been skateboarding professionally since 1999, and was the first to win gold medals in the Summer and Winter X games, and the only athlete to achieve top honors in the Summer and Winter Dew cups in the same year.

In addition to skating and snowboarding for the Birdhouse and Burton teams, Shaun White is one of the highest paid athletes in action sports thanks to lucrative endorsement deals with Target, Hewlett-Packard, Oakley, and Red Bull.

According to a press release distributed yesterday from Tony Hawk Inc., Hawk has acquired sole ownership of Birdhouse Skateboards. Former business partner Per Welinder will maintain ownership of the other Blitz brands, including Flip Skateboards, Fury Skateboards, Sk8Mafia, and Hook-Ups.

“Full ownership will give Tony increased oversight and involvement to his biggest priority, the Birdhouse team riders,” the press release says.

The Birdhouse pro team currently includes pro skaters Steve Nesser, Matt Ball, Tony Hawk, Shaun White, Willy Santos and Jeremy Klein.
