Yesterday’s Battle At The Berrics was easily one of the most heated games of skate we have ever witnessed between pros. Surprisingly, Eric Koston had accumulated 4 letters of S-K-A-T-E from the bag of tricks Morgan Smith was throwing down. You can never be too quick to judge Koston, which he proved to be true by making one of the best come backs The Berrics has seen yet. Element Skateboards has added a new member to their tribe that absolutely rips. Evan Smith’s newest commercial for his first signature Element deck is simply phenomenal. If you haven’t viewed the clip for yourself, check it out below. We just received a handful of his decks earlier this week and these things are fresh. They’ve got comfortable concave and awesome pop. Volcom’s Damn Am competition kicked off yesterday and will continue to burn on throughout the weekend. For those of you who are unaware of what the Damn Am competition is all about, here is our attempt to enlighten you. The top amateur skaters from around the world will be ripping up the new Volcom Headquarters park in Costa Mesa, California for a spot to compete in the world renowned Tampa Am competition. Yesterday consisted of an open practice round for the eligible Damn Am skaters. The qualifiers will start today and continue on through Saturday. The event will be in a jam format, three skaters per jam with each jam only lasting three minutes. Only 100 skaters will be allowed to compete per day, with the top 16 skaters moving on toward the semi-finals. The top qualifier will go directly into the finals. Sunday’s events should get super exciting. There will be an open practice starting at 9:00 am. Then at 12:00 pm the semi-finals and finals will take place, along with a best trick contest to ice the cake. The top 12 skaters in the finals will all qualify for the Tampa Am, the the 1st and 2nd placers of the finals will get an instant shot at the Tampa Am semi-finals.
