Skateboard trucks: What size do you need?
In: Build a SkateboardWhen choosing a skateboard truck, you want to consider width and height.
Width
Your skateboard truck should match your deck in size. Skateboard deck sizes vary from 7.45 to 8.5 inches in street skating. Measure the body of the truck to get the info you need to determine if it will fit your deck.
- 5″ Hanger / 129mm / 7.75″ Axle skateboard trucks fit decks from 7.5 to 8 inches.
- 5.25″ Hanger / 139mm / 8.0″ Axle skateboard trucks fit decks from 8 to 8.5 inches.
For skateboard decks 9 inches and above made for street cruising, ramp, and pool skating, you’ll need a larger truck
- For decks 8.5 to 9 inches, use a 149mm skateboard truck.
- For decks 9 to 10 inches, use a 169mm truck.
- For decks 10 inches and above, use a 215mm skateboard truck.
Height
The height of your truck will affect what you can do with the board. If you want more stability for flip tricks, a low skateboard truck and small wheels are your best bet. For cruising and speed, you need a higher skate truck to accommodate large wheels. If you’re a beginner, stick with a standard medium truck.

Hey I have 4.75 hanger, 7.25 axel trucks on my 7.5 deck and am looking to get a new deck around a 7.63. Will these trucks work ok?
All your questions are answered in the post above
Been reading some of these posts. It said Medium trucks for beginners. That is wrong. Medium is for those who do both street skating and mini-ramp / or bigger transitions. Lo trucks – street – up to 52mm wheels. Mid trucks – allround – upto 55mm wheels. High trucks – mini/vert transitions – 55mm+ wheels. Hope this helps.
We suggest Mid Trucks to beginners because it is easier to skate a little bigger wheel when you are just learning, therefore you would want a 53-54mm wheel with Mid trucks. What you said is correct though about street vs. vert skating.
heylo, ok im havin trouble of choosing trucks for my board.
i was looking forward to buy the 145 thunder titanium light lows which i heard it is 7.65 not 7.75. i’ve got pretty big feet and i ride the 7.81 girl’s deck. would it be okay if i use 7.65 or 7.75 trucks for my 7.81 deck?
please reply and thanks
The Thunder 145s are basically 7.75″ Axle Trucks. And they will work perfectly with a 7.8″ Deck.
i bought an 8 inch alien complete and the tensors that came with it are im guessing 7.6-7.75, they are so small its noticeable. where can i get 8 inch tensors, ive looked everywhere…
i forgot to mention i want the tensors with the slider in it
We should get some 8.0″ Sliders in our next batch
ETA on the next batch??? or guess?
