Skateboard trucks: What size do you need?
In: Build a SkateboardWhen choosing a skateboard truck, you want to consider width and height.
Width
Your skateboard truck should match your deck in size. Skateboard deck sizes vary from 7.45 to 8.5 inches in street skating. Measure the body of the truck to get the info you need to determine if it will fit your deck.
- 5″ Hanger / 129mm / 7.75″ Axle skateboard trucks fit decks from 7.5 to 8 inches.
- 5.25″ Hanger / 139mm / 8.0″ Axle skateboard trucks fit decks from 8 to 8.5 inches.
For skateboard decks 9 inches and above made for street cruising, ramp, and pool skating, you’ll need a larger truck
- For decks 8.5 to 9 inches, use a 149mm skateboard truck.
- For decks 9 to 10 inches, use a 169mm truck.
- For decks 10 inches and above, use a 215mm skateboard truck.
Height
The height of your truck will affect what you can do with the board. If you want more stability for flip tricks, a low skateboard truck and small wheels are your best bet. For cruising and speed, you need a higher skate truck to accommodate large wheels. If you’re a beginner, stick with a standard medium truck.

what size wheels should i get for an 8 inch deck, i was thinking 51 mm
I have a 7.3 inch wide deck. What size trucks are best for it?
7.5″ Trucks will work for that size.
i’ve got a 7.25 flip mini deck an’ i was wonderin’ wot size trucks would b best 4 that size
7.25″ Trucks would be best but 7.5″ Axles will work too.
i skate thunder 145s and 8.25 decks depends on the person i tried 147s but just dont feel comfortable with them
Hi.Im getting a 7.5 board are the new independent low 129 turcks low enough for a 7.5 board,and are they lower then silver’s 7.5 lows turcks,and also what is the lowest turck out there,Oh p.s what is the difference between a 7.5 , a 7.25 ,and a 7.50 are they all the same! please i need to know,and are the 129′s low enough for 48mm wheels! ,i really need them to be very very Low! ,thankyou.
i have a 8.0 deck so i need 8.0 trucks? and how do you know if a truck is a higher or lower truck?
Hey mate just wondering if all skate board trucks have the same distance between the screws, both length and width.

Zach….Most of the 7.5″-8″ Axle trucks all have the same screw distances. Sometimes, they will have 2 extra holes in case you have an old school board with the different hole sets. That help?
